Maybe if I put it in writing, I have a snowflake's chance in Mobile of sticking to it?

I stopped by Planet Fitness on my way home from school today, and I might join. It's nothing fancy, nothing particularly special--no pool, no track--but I don't swim for exercise and a treadmill would do me if I ever got the silly notion in my head to run. (Unlikely.) Mostly, I like the look of the weights. But everything is damn bright purple and yellow. Which is scary. But the hours are good and I probably won't run into my students. Or have to give more money to the uni.

Today, I also went to school and figured out the rest of my schedule, and even managed to do a wee bit of comps reading. So I got inspired. And thought I should have a schedule, and show it to you peoples, because I somehow keep more promises to this collective of people I have almost entirely never met than I do to myself or the people I see all the time.

Holy crap: it's a weekend, and there's actual doing stuff happening.

Last night, we saw The Town Pants. They are beautiful, they are talented, and they are quotable. )

And today? Today we haul it to Philly for the Phillies/Padres game. (For someone who writes slash, it's really weird to put the slash between words. I mean, they're so not a pairing, but if they were, the Phillies top. So I'll leave it that way, despite that the home v. away convention in the US is to put the home team second.) I. Love. Baseball. Love. It. (So much it makes me abuse the full stop, apparently.) So: look for me on the jumbotron. I'll be the one trying to explain the rules to four Idiots: three of whom will be more interested in the beers than the game, and one of whom will most likely be making eyes Cole Hamels (who is so very sadly on the DL just now).

--I am down to my last 6 days of freedom from school. I will spend too many of them at work.
--The Town Pants really are my favorite band ever, officially.

Oof. This tagging stuff is monotonous. But I have all my fic tagged now. The rest of it probably won't get tags over here--I'll just tag things appropriately from this point onward.

And: now I gots more icons!! Hotness. I'll probably go hunt more elsewhere later. But I'm kind of out of it for the massive tweaking stuff for a little while.

I ended up spending a whole lot of yesterday tidying up around here, and the major issue was making my desk a workable space again. I still need a desk chair (hopefully remedied by end of weekend) since a papasan just isn't good for concentration or my wrists. Rather than just linking my pictures here, I'm going to send you to my flickr page where you can see pictures with commentary (mouse-over photos) if you're interested. There are 9 photos of this nonsense total--scroll through them using the right-pointing arrow in the gray box next to the first picture.

Not only do I have the day off, but I'm not going anywhere special. Which probably means I should do something productive, yeah? Especially since anxiety about not getting these things done is making my body start to declare war on itself, and honestly, I'm just not up to a civil war at the moment.

Remember how in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Gibbs actually yells, "MAELSTROM!"? After the film, I looked at my movie companions and said, "No one says that. No one actually shouts 'Maelstrom.'" And that was that for several months.

Then I got home from work today, stood in my kitchen, and said, very loudly, "I AM MALCONTENT." And while there was no swirling whirlpool of oceany fear, I found myself guilty of saying one of those things that no one actually says. So, that kind of amused me, but I'm still malcontent.

So I have an honest-to-goodness Vanilla Coke (vanilla syrup + Coke--none of that pre-made BS) with a generous helping of Captain Morgan's best rum. Okay. Not the best rum. The average stuff. But it's still pretty good. And this is my favorite drink that doesn't involve Kahlua or Bailey's. And if the malcontent deepens, I'll move to Buttery Nipple shots. Which are dangerous because they taste like perfect, but the butterscotchy goodness tends to give me joy. Or the Baby Guinness shot, which is delicious and adorable (fill a shotglass with equal parts Kahlua and Tia Maria OR dark creme de cacao and float 1/2 oz. of Bailey's on top). If you manage the layer properly, it looks like a wee pint of Guinness. And: delicious.

The root of all this malcontent is the grading I have to do, the fleeting nature of this month, and the fact that I really don't want to do anything on my to-do list of Important Graduate School Crap.

The way to alleviate these issues is, most likely, to do the grading and other stuff.

*curls up in yarn instead*

EDIT: You know what helps? Burn Notice. Has anyone seen this show? 10 pm, Thursdays, USA. I haven't had a show I thought worth paying attention to since the first season of Lost. It's witty and there's Bruce Campbell and spy tricks and stuff blows up and an ex-IRA gunrunner who's just beautiful and deadly and she's my hero.

Today's our 2-year wedding anniversary. What better way to celebrate than with a a new door? )

In other news, I made brownies today (because why not bake when it's already nearing 90 in your kitchen?). I put them in cupcake papers so I can easily take some to work tomorrow. Should have lowered the temperature, though. The edges are a bit chewy. Mostly, the cupcakes were a convenient excuse to make peanut butter icing, which I have put on a cupcake to roughly 1/2 of cupcake's own depth. Sheff is going to coma at right about the time to go for groceries.

A whole lot of unpleasant crap is going down these days, and it's mostly stuff I can't actually do anything about. Which, of course, drives me mostly up a tree, or out of my tree, depending on which expression you prefer.

So I've been doing some wool-related fiber therapy, and in case anyone wants to see my other obsessive hobby (aside from writing), here's your chance. Under the cut, you'll meet Sinclair, my sexy as all sex Ashford Traveller wheel, some Blue-Faced Leicester Wool, some of my surrounding clutter, and my utter inability to take a decent picture at any time of day.

Mmm, wool. )

So, I'm back from the wedding, I've read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (I don't think I'll do a review post--other people have already done them and better than I would), and now I can move on with my life. But before I do that, I feel I should apologize. I expected the Peace Arc Idiots (for anyone who might be new to the acronym, the PAI) to completely ditch me for the weekend as they did when I had to go to the bridal shower for this wedding. Turns out, the PAI love a wedding, and there was enough commentary/meta-nonsense that I think it's worth sharing.

At least they clean up nice. )
